Earliest meeting: Tuesday 15th April 1828
Final meeting: Wednesday 22nd April 1829
Garswood is a village in the St Helens district of Merseyside, but was historically part of Lancashire. Garswood Park was in the vicinity of a number of modern day sporting stadia, namely 4 miles from St Helens Rugby League Stadium, 6 miles from Wigan Rugby Leage and Football Stadium, and less than 3 miles from Haydock Park Racecourse. The earliest record of a meeting on the Park was a 2 day meeting on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th April 1828. The card for the first day consisted of 4 matches, with Sir J Gerard losing 3 of them, and the Garswood Park Stakes which was won by Jessy for Mr Gerard. On the second day there were 3 further matches and the Garswood Free Handicap which wet to Mr Rigbye’s Orville. The Sporting Magazine of 1829 recorded that a 2 day race meeting was staged on Garswood Park on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd April 1829. The Garswood 10 Sovereigns Sweepstake, a 4 furlong sprint, was won by Sir J Gerard’s Eliza, while on the second day a match between Mr E Clifton’s Harriet and Mr R Willis’s Euxton resulted in a win for the former. There are no further records of races taking place on the Park.
